Ancient Wisdom: The Sacred Foundation of Māori Bodywork
Romiromi and Mirimiri are sacred Māori healing arts passed down through generations, deeply rooted in Māori tikanga (customs) and spiritual traditions.
These practices were traditionally carried out by tohungas (spiritual healers) as a holistic approach to health, wellbeing, and spiritual connection—embodying the profound relationship between land, people, and spirituality.
During colonisation, these valuable practices faced suppression and were often performed in secrecy to protect their tapu (sacredness). Despite this, their wisdom and techniques were resiliently preserved and passed down through whakapapa (lineage).
Today, these arts are experiencing a heartfelt revival. They are practiced with deep respect for their tikanga, and shared to support healing and wellbeing in a way that honours their sacred origins.

This healing approach, rooted in the ancient Māori arts of Romiromi and Mirimiri, is a profound form of somatic bodywork.
It is based on the understanding that our life experiences—both seen and unseen—are held within the body. Through gentle and intuitive hands-on techniques, we work to address the deep connection between your hinengaro (mind), tinana (body), and wairua (spirit).
Similar to modern somatic practices, Romiromi and Mirimiri are designed to facilitate the release of deeply-held tension and stagnant energy, helping to resolve patterns stored in the body’s cellular memory. This process encourages your body’s innate wisdom to realign and restore its natural flow, creating a safe, calming space where you can feel more relaxed, refreshed, and deeply connected to your whole self.
